Mar 9, 2007 · The 361 was $585 w/20" bar and has a 59 cc engine, the 390 is about $100 less and has a 64 cc engine w/ 20" bar, both are suppose to take a 16 - 25 inch bar. I would like to have a 24" bar for those occasions I need it. Seems to me that the 390 would be the better deal because it has a larger engine and lower price. Good Medium sized saw. MS 390. I've had this unit using the 20" bar for probably 15 years now. It was used at lot in the beginning then had a span of probably 7-8 years with minimal use. Now I've been using it again for almost another 3 years pretty heavily and it's Stihl going strong (pardon the pun). Just as easy to start as the day I bought it. To verify this, start up the saw, while it is running at full throttle, tap the brake on and at the same time release the throttle. The engine should not stall at idle. If it stalls it is running too rich. Lean out the idle by turning the L screw clockwise in 2 minute increments till the engine idles without stalling.
