It seems as if the only way is to remove the front knock sensor unless I'm prepared to do it by the tradional flush method. I looked underneath and what I think is a knock sensor is above a subframe ...
my gasket stuff , for s/c came w a small tube of black permatex. no gaskets, rtv only. go around whole nose piece tightening little by little.remember, its not lugnuts your tightening. also, do not apply any degreaser/solvent to the rotors. they are coated and removing this coating is said to be bad.(loose sealing capability)(less efficient).Head gasket repairs can be expensive, but the cost can vary significantly depending on the cause of the issue and the type of repair needed. Numerous people that have done these swaps basically "modding" the L67 LIM opening to work with the GenV blower. Just get a GenV gasket and you will see what you need to open up. I think there is one other hole in the L32 LIM, but doesn't effect use or performance. And Gasket Cement for the O-rings/Seals. Degreaser, soak the removed bolt and parts, and to clean everything when removed. Sanding block and fine sandpaper, to clean the LIM face's, and the Head Intake Face's. Compressor, to blow the waste away from the head intake faces. Rags/Cloths to cover the valley, when cleaning up the Head Intake Faces.Dunno if that's normal, but I don't think it is. I'm, going to take a straight edge to the LIM and the cylinder heads tomorrow, and by wednesday, hopefully, I'll be finished up. upper intake swap created problems. I have a 2001 Monte Carlo and decided to swap out the plastic GEN II upper intake for an aluminum GEN III upper. I did the valve cover gaskets and lower intake and then swapped in the upper aluminum. Im not sure exactly what the aluminum upper came off of, Im waiting for a call back from a friend to find out.

I did this for the first time on my wife's 3800 and it's still fine. Not even a coolant elbow leak, but I could be lucky on that one. I replaced the LIM gaskets on my Buick at 66k miles. Even at that low mileage, they were estimated by folks very knowledgeable about 3800 V6's to be a month away from failure. If the 3500 and 3900 are related to the 3100/3400 V6's, I'm not surprised.
