It is the primary component of the sedimentary rock known as dolostone and the metamorphic rock known as dolomitic marble. Limestone that contains some dolomite is known as dolomitic limestone. Dolostone, also known as dolomite (not to be confused with the mineral dolomite ), is a type of carbonate sedimentary rock consisting predominantly of dolomite [CaMg (CO 3) 2] and to a lesser extent of other carbonates, like calcite and aragonite.
